I was actually very curious about Meighan's responses to my questions as I haven't known her long. I photographed her family this past fall and could tell she has a creative streak and sentimental heart. I always look forward to trading e-mails with her - her writing style is refreshing and witty which is hard to pull off in an e-mail! That and I appreciate how forgiving she is when someone makes a colossal blunder like bringing everything to a session EXCEPT the camera (yes, it's my most embarassing moment as a photographer). Her enthusiasm for everything is infectious!
And now a look into what makes Meighan remarkable...

Meet Tina. I photographed her wonderful family last summer. The session was just awesome - adorable kids, laid back parents, beautiful summer evening. It was just a treat to hang out with them and capture some great family moments. They are just such a nice family and have such fondness between all of them. As I chatted with Tina I found out she runs a home daycare. That in my mind is remarkable!! To care for children other than her own is something I admire so much because I know how much energy it takes just to care for my own on a daily basis. So when I started this series, Tina was one person I thought of immediately because I know her job is hard but so very much appreciated.
Here's Tina's answers to my questions:
I was born and grew up in the Minneapolis area. I went to prom with a boy my junior year of high school, and I never left his side. Yes, I married my high school sweet heart. We attended college together and studied abroad in England. We just celebrated our 9 year Wedding Anniversary, and couldn't be happier.
I have two wonderful children. My daughter is 7, and my son is 4. I just cannot believe how fast they are growing up. They keep my husband and I busy and we are enjoying every second of it.
I also have a 12 year old yorkie, Skeeter. He is an old man, but still my baby.
When I had my daughter, I had every intention of going back to work (as a Nursing Home Administrator), but once she was here that is not what I wanted to do. I started my own home daycare 6 years ago. It is a challenging job, but I enjoy being home. Now, in June I am actually going part time - I am so excited!!!
Besides being with my family, another thing that makes me tick is being with friends. I just got back from a weekend with a group of good friends, and we had a wonderful time.
I think that is part of what make a remarkable woman, knowing what you want and need and doing it. Everyone is very busy and it's hard to get it all done. To be a happy remarkable woman you need to find out what makes you (not everyone else) happy and do it. This means sometimes you can't do it all and you have to tell somebody 'no', or ask other people for help (and it's ok - really!).
I feel like everyone knows everything about me.
I love to travel, so I think I could come up with a million dream vacations. Currently, I would love a beach vacation where fruity drinks are delivered to me non-stop and I would be warm. I am really sick of being cold!!
I will drink anything from Starbucks. I love it, I am a Starbucks snob. Don't give my anything from Caribou.
My best gift lately was the long peach string of pearls that my husband bought me for our anniversary.
My favorite dessert is the Princess Torte from Willets bakery. Yum
I owe a lot to Lisa - she was my very first client and the catalyst that launched my business. She told everyone (and she knew a lot of people!) about my new business and for that I'm forever grateful. We became friends when our oldest boys were in preschool together and they became best friends. She was a good friend to me when we lived in Little Rock and now I'm happy to feature her here. I'm so happy for her and her new career with Arbonne! Her interview...
Tell your life story in 3 sentences: I earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing and practiced in the cardiology field for several years after marrying my high school sweetheart. I have 3 amazing boys and a husband I adore with a business that couldn’t be better. 35 has been so great, I can’t wait for 36!
Your family: I’ve been married to [S]hawn for 13 years, have 3 boys, [N] 9, ]L] 7, [L] 4
Outside of being a fabulous mom, what else makes you tick? (job, business, hobbies, volunteer work, etc): My faith, my girlfriends, teaching other women how to have a successful personal business with Arbonne International, a Swiss Health and Wellness Company
Women you find remarkable: Cecilia Stoll, Executive National Vice President with Arbonne and Lori Clark, National Vice President with Arbonne; both are true examples of a servant leader.
What is something people may not know about you? I was such a tomboy growing up!
Dream vacation location? Any beautiful beach with clear blue water
Any hidden talents? I can tell a woman the sex of her baby when she’s pregnant after being around her a few minutes.
Your Starbucks drink of choice: Grande Coffee in a Venti cup, with lots of half and half
Best gift you ever received: My children, of course!
Favorite Dessert: German Chocolate Cake
A favorite childhood memory: My mom standing in the kitchen cooking and drinking iced tea in the summer time, with a warm breeze coming thru the window and music playing on the stereo.
Anything else you’d like to add? I am always looking for women to help develop their own Arbonne business, so they, too, can have choices in life. You can go to www.arbonne.com to find out more about the products and company, and I can be reached at lisafrenzelarbonne@yahoo.com, or 901.605.8222.
Ok I had no idea about her hidden talent and I'm pretty sure when I was pregnant with my youngest son she told me I'd have a boy. Hmmm...
Ahhh...I feel refreshed! I spent the weekend in Chicago at a photography workshop. And it was great to spend some time just for me and my business. I met some great people and came away inspired and motivated. And we got to work with some wonderful child models. It was fun to try out Audrey's studio loft and work with all the creative spaces there. And we got to work on that ever-so-tough lighting situation - full sun. Best advice - avoid the full sun! Ha! Not sure I have it mastered yet but it was good to work on it and try out some different techniques.
So here are some of the images - there are lots because really, these kids are beautiful! (I know the boys won't like me saying that!) And a little hello to [R] and [S] - I enjoyed our little chat after the session. I have no doubt you two are going places!
Real quick...I'll be out of town at a workshop this weekend and I'll be back to return phone calls and e-mails on Tues. Here's the photog I'm going to work with: http://www.alwphotography.com/
I love her work and I'm very excited to see her studio. Be back Tues!
My next Remarkable Woman is Katie! I've enjoyed photographing her family for the past year or so. Her little girl is adorable and has been my model for an ad I did. And now she is expecting #2 very soon! I admire Katie because before she became a mom, she was the women's golf coach at the U of M - a job she loved I'm sure. But when her first baby came along she made the decision to stay at home to raise her. It's a decision so many of us face as women when our first one comes along. And no decision is easy but I admire those that do what's best for their families whether that means staying at home or going back to work. It's not easy to strike a balance!
I also have to mention that Katie has the most charming dad - he loves his family very much! Here's Katie's interview:
Tell your life story in 3 sentences: An amazing childhood with loving parents and one brother. Playing/coaching the game of golf has been a life story in itself. I am in the best chapter yet during my life story, a mom to [A] and due with baby #2 any day!
Your family: Husband [T], married 4 years, [A] 20 mos. and new baby due SOON!
Outside of being a fabulous mom, what else makes you tick? (job, business, hobbies, volunteer work, etc): The game of golf as well as competition. I also love to shop but that has been a bit curtailed by motherhood!
Women you find remarkable: My mom for sure. She is someone that I look up to for advice and wisdom in motherhood. I am so lucky!
What is something people may not know about you? I am a complete neat freak! Can't stand a mess.
Dream vacation location: Anywhere that the sunshines and the temp is 85 or better in January.
Any hidden talents? Not sure if it is a talent but I love to cook.
Your Starbucks drink of choice: right now....a decaf latte with 1/2 shot of vanilla
Best gift you ever received: the proposal of marriage from Todd
Favorite Dessert: anything chocolate! Can't get enough!
A favorite childhood memory: Playing tons of golf with my dad and brother, and always having some kind of prize on the line.
Good luck to you Katie as you welcome your second little one to the world!
