All of the children pictured have attended Partners In Excellence - an amazing Autism Therapy Center from which my own son just recently graduated. I cannot say enough good thing about their staff and their program.
That's how this project got started. I'd drop my son off for "school" there each day and I'd see all the other children at the center. And as I saw my son making remarkable progress, I noticed all the ways the other kids were making improvements - that should be celebrated! They are all such wonderful children and being a photographer, I felt compelled to get my camera on them and capture their remarkable spirits. To tell their stories, to show that autism doesn't look like you think it might, to showcase their capabilities and remarkable spirits.
But it wasnt enough for me to just photograph them. That would be easy! I needed a purpose for this project and so I partnered with United for Autism - a local non-profit that is helping local families who are affected by autism. It was a perfect fit for a calendar. And I can't tell you all the excitement and enthusiasm this project has generated.
And now you can purchase this beautiful calendar and read the inspiring stories of these children -- the word their parents used to describe them brought me to tears! And by purchasing the calendar you'll be making a difference in the lives of families coping with autism.
